Roadmap

What’s being built.

deoxy is built in the open by a solo developer. This roadmap reflects current priorities: what's available today, what's coming next, and what the future holds.

Live

Available today.

  • Browser-native editor

Cloning, feature annotation, translations, and restriction-site analysis. All in the browser, no install.

  • Alignment & phylogeny

Pairwise, MSA, distance matrices, and tree-building in the same workspace as your sequences.

  • Structure preview

Protein structure prediction and viewing via ESMFold and AlphaFold.

  • Broad import support

GenBank, FASTA, EMBL, SnapGene .dna, AB1 chromatograms, and Newick trees.

  • Shareable document links

Read-only links for collaborators, students, and reviewers. No account required to view.

  • SRA read mapping (beta)

Map FASTQ from SRA accessions to a reference (FASTQ BAM via minimap2) and visualize coverage.

  • Mbp-scale genome streaming

Large genomes stream by viewport, so multi-GB sequences can be explored without loading the full file into memory.

Next

In active development.

  • CRISPR guide design

Find and score CRISPR guide RNAs against your sequence.

  • Professional tier

More storage, larger file uploads, and priority support for individual power users.

  • Real-time co-editing

    Collaborative editing for shared documents.

  • Full NGS file upload

BAM / CRAM / FASTQ upload with multi-GB resumable transfer and large-file region editing (Pro).

  • Benchling export

Round-trip your data back out, not just in.

  • ORF detection

Scan all six reading frames for open reading frames, with inline highlighting and automatic coding-region annotations.

  • VCF variant export

Export called variants as VCF for VEP, snpEff, bcftools, and IGV, not just CSV.

  • Version history: preview & revert

Step back through document history, preview any past state, and restore it with one click.

Future

Planned, but not yet in development.

  • Teams & Enterprise

Planned support for shared documents, SSO, and audit logs.

  • Bring-your-own-bucket

Planned support for storing files in customer-owned cloud storage.

  • Region-based BAM/CRAM streaming

Windowed, on-demand access to multi-GB aligned-read files, extending viewport streaming from genomes to NGS tracks.

  • Classroom workspaces

Pre-built assignment templates for cloning, primer, and CRISPR design.

  • Primer-BLAST & primer upgrades

Target-specific PCR primer design, mismatch-tolerant binding search, and dimer / hairpin checks.

  • Expanded structure toolbox

Load experimental structures (PDB / mmCIF or RCSB fetch), render surfaces, and measure distances and angles.

  • RNA-seq & de novo assembly

Splice-aware RNA-seq alignment (STAR) and de novo assembly, building on the cloud mapping pipeline.
